Greens Stand Against Unethical Labour Disability Cuts

St Helens Green Party strongly condemns the Labour-backed bill that will see thousands of disabled people across the country denied the support they need to live independently.

The proposed changes to Personal Independence Payments (PIP) are nothing short of an attack on some of the most vulnerable people in our society. Many who rely on this support to carry out basic daily tasks such as washing, dressing and feeding themselves, now face losing it entirely.

We are proud to stand in solidarity with the four Green MPs who voted against this cruel bill. We also welcome the decision of St Helens South and Whiston MP Marie Rimmer to rebel against her party’s core and vote against the bill. However, we are especially disappointed in David Baines, MP for St Helens North, whose support for the bill is a clear betrayal of thousands of disabled constituents.

St Helens Greens will always stand with disabled people. We will continue to speak out against policies that cause harm, and fight for a society where everyone is treated with dignity, fairness and compassion.
