The Greens are coming to St Helens

13 March 2011

The Greens are coming to St Helens - and like-minded locals are being invited to join the party.

There are already over 150 local Green Party groups across England and Wales, and the latest one, St Helens, will be launched at the town's historic Friends Meeting House in Church Street on Tuesday 22nd March, 7.30pm.

Local Green Party organiser Francis Williams says:

"We're thrilled to be bringing Britain's most progressive political party to St Helens - the only party offering the radical solutions we need to meet the enormous social, economic and ecological challenges we face.

"The Green Party went into the last election with costed plans to tackle the deficit without decimating public services and destroying jobs - and we're going to keep on pushing for positive alternatives to the ruinous slash and burn policies being pursued by national and local government. St Helens needs and deserves much better than what we've had and what we've got.

"If you believe in a more equal society that meets everyone's needs, a more stable economy that works with nature rather than against it, higher incomes for pensioners rather than bonuses for bankers, a thriving town centre, safer streets and local communities we can be proud of, we'd love to see you next Tuesday night."

Over the last decade Green Party representation has significantly increased at all levels of government. The party currently holds 109 seats on 40 authorities across England and Wales, has two MEPs and last year party leader Caroline Lucas became Britain's first Green MP.
