Cultural vandalism: enough is enough

St Helens Green Party says St Helens Council should be doing much more to safeguard the borough’s heritage.

The call comes after Cheshire-based developer Steppingstone submitted an application to demolish one of the town’s oldest public houses: the Black Horse at Moss Bank.

Steppingstone intends to build a number of modern houses on the site of the historic 18th century stone building. But St Helens Green Party insists that the council should do everything in its power to protect the building lack and allow extra time for an alternative to demolition to be found.

The party is also urging local residents to voice their objections to the planning application.

Susan Rahman of St Helens Green Party says:

“Like many people we are absolutely dismayed at proposals to destroy yet another piece of our town’s heritage. We urge local residents to register their objections on the council’s website at sthelens.gov.uk and tell the council ‘enough is enough’.

“We have suffered cultural vandalism and neglect for far too long. The character of the town is constantly being destroyed before our very eyes. Those who don’t care about St Helens should make way for people who do.”
