Green Party calls in tree officer to former Triplex site

St Helens Green Party has raised concerns about the threat to popular and long-standing trees on the embankment of the former Triplex site in Eccleston.

Cheshire-based developer Jones Homes is building 262 houses on the site, adjacent to Millfields. Although the developer has permission to fell conifers which once screened the factory from view, recent excavation works have led to the felling of one hardwood tree and compromised the integrity of several more.

Eccleston-based Green Party member, Francis Williams, explains:

“We are concerned that the integrity of the trees is being compromised by digging works on site, so I have asked the council’s tree officer for his opinion.

“Excavations have taken place very close to the remaining hardwood trees; already one tree has fallen over and several others have a pronounced lean. These trees have long been part of the landscape locally and need protection if they are to remain that way.”
